Neurogenesis is an extraordinarily diverse and complex process that generates hundreds of different neuron types in central and peripheral nervous systems, including sensory organs. Neuronal diversity is further amplified by factors including gender and (in females) random X chromosome inactivation. Defects of neurogenesis during development cause a plethora of human neurological disorders such as epilepsy, ataxia, sensorineural hearing loss, and autism, some of which may be treatable by neuronal replacement using extrinsic or intrinsic progenitor cells. However, neuronal replacement strategies have so far met with very limited success. Such strategies can presumably be enhanced through better understanding of normal neurogenesis and neuronal diversity. The goal of this conference is to promote translational progress in neurogenesis research by bringing together scientists studying normal development, disorders of neurogenesis, and approaches to neuroregeneration, with the focus on a few neural structures including the cerebral neocortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and inner ear. At the conclusion of the conference, attendees will have a more integrated understanding of neurogenesis mechanisms, disorders, and potential treatments.

Downtown Steamboat Springs is the heart of an authentic north western Colorado community where ranchers, skiers and artists all come together. Long before Steamboat Springs became an international skiing destination, it was a hard working ranching community with “regular folks” looking for a good life in a beautiful place. Downtown evolved on the banks of the Yampa River, offering the products and services necessary to keep the new town alive.
Today, Downtown Steamboat Springs is still the heart of the community with shops, restaurants, art galleries and spas, government buildings, museums and public spaces. Downtown is the home of Howelsen Hill, the largest publicly-owned recreational complex, housing the oldest ski complex in Colorado, a rodeo arena, an Olympic-sized indoor skating rink, an alpine slide, and acres of biking, hiking and cross-country skiing trails, all within walking distance of Downtown.
