Synopsis

As the impacts of COVID-19 continue, we have taken the decision to go virtual with the 4th Interventions in Aging conference. The meeting will now have a three day program starting on 19th October and will conclude 21st October 2021.

A plethora of genetic, dietary and pharmacological interventions can extend healthy lifespan in laboratory animals, and can delay or ameliorate diverse aging-related diseases. Mechanisms of aging are conserved in evolution, and discoveries made in animals are informing our understanding of human aging. This raises the intriguing possibility of performing preventative medicine against chronic and age-related diseases, by targeting their main risk factor, namely aging. Important current challenges in the field are (1) to understand the downstream pathways by which longevity interventions can combat age-related loss of function and pathology, (2) to evaluate the impact of regenerative interventions and cellular reprogramming on age-related diseases, and (3) to translate the findings into the extension of human health span.  

This fourth meeting will continue to explore these topics, with particular emphasis on what we can learn from variation in the rate of ageing in the natural world, mitochondria, cellular senescence, biomarkers and epidemiology, immune aging and reprogramming and rejuvenation strategies.

Joint Sesession with 2nd Mitochondria Conference

We are holding a joint session between the 4th Interventions in Aging Conference and the 2nd Mitochondria Conference. The session will take place on the 22nd July. Mitochondria play a key role in the aging process, with mitochondrial density and activity declining in specific tissues, associated with loss of respiratory and metabolic functions. Discovering how to prevent this age-related decline is therefore an important goal of research into aging.

Registration for the Aging conference includes access to the joint session and a group lunch on the 22nd July. If you would be interested in joining an additional group dinner on the 22nd July, this would be at a cost of €42 and you would need to sign up in advance by contacting Laura Trundle. Furthermore, if you would like to extend your stay to include the night of the 22nd July, this would be at a cost of €158 for bed and breakfast only, and you will need to add this via your Fusion account.

Please note that registration for the 4th Interventions in Aging conference does not include registration for the 2nd Mitochondria conference. If you are interested in registering for both meetings, we can offer a 10% discount off your second registration, please contact Chloe Trundle for further information.

Student Offer

Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity for students! Fully paying academics can bring a student for only €830. Unfortunately, postdocs are not eligible. Both registration packages include; accommodation for the 19, 20, 21 July 2021 (on a shared basis for students) and a food and beverage package for the conference period. Educational Need

The aging field encompasses a wide range of biology, involving many model organisms and, with respect to mammals, the involvement of many tissues. In addition, translational strategies to modify the rate of aging range from lifestyle change to drugs and, more recently stem cell-based therapeutics. As such, there is an abiding need to bring together scientists across diverse fields with the purpose of providing a clear overview of the state of basic research in aging and the development of translational strategies. The goal is to create cross-fertilization between scientists in different areas, accelerating the development of interventions that extend human health span.
